WHO WE ARE - Students negotiate agreements, where goods and services from countries they researched are valued and traded.
It is now December and winter is around the corner. We have spent a few weeks investigating the central idea of our PYP theme "Who We Are": "Human development is shaped by environmental processes". Fifth graders inquired about, discussed and researched natural processes and their features, boundaries and factors that influence society. Working in small groups, they have determined the value of these varied aspects of society and negotiated treaties and agreements with each other.
The following is a brief interview between fifth grade teacher Mr. Freelon and fifth grade student Christopher Ford:
Christopher Ford: One thing that I really, really liked about this investigation as that we got to work with other students we normally don’t pair up with with.
Mr. Freelon: What do you mean by that?
Christopher Ford: Usually before we would always pick our friends to work with. But this time, we picked people that we didn’t know so well. We could learn about them. It helped us to understand another student we never knew. So we learned about new people and the inquiry work that we were assigned.
Mr. Freelon: Tell me what you learned about human development.
Christopher Ford: In human development, I think politics influence society because we followed one of the debates between Trump and Clinton. People have to vote for one of them. We also learned about borders between nations.

"Quienes somos?" en clase 5B
QUIENES SOMOS ? - Los estudiantes negocian acuerdos, donde los bienes y servicios de los países que investigan son valorados y comercializados.
Es ahora diciembre y el invierno está a la vuelta de la esquina. Hemos pasado las ultimas semanas investigando la idea central de nuestro tema del PYP "Quiénes somos": "El desarrollo humano está moldeado por procesos ambientales". Los estudiantes del quinto grado preguntaron, discutieron e investigaron los procesos naturales y sus rasgos, límites y factores que influyen en la sociedad. Trabajando en pequeños grupos, han determinado el valor de estos variados aspectos de la sociedad y han negociado tratados y acuerdos entre sí.
Lo que sigue es una breve entrevista entre el maestro de quinto grado, Sr. Freelon, y el alumno de quinto grado Christopher Ford:
Christopher Ford: Una cosa que realmente me gustó de esta investigación es que tenemos que trabajar con otros estudiantes con los que normalmente no nos relacionamos.
Senor Freelon: ¿Qué quiere decir con eso?
Christopher Ford: Usualmente ... antes ... siempre seleccionamos a nuestros amigos para trabajar juntos. Pero esta vez, elegimos gente que no conocíamos tan bien y podríamos aprender sobre ellos. Nos ayudó a entender a otros estudiante que nunca hemos sido amigos. Así que aprendimos sobre nuevas personas y el trabajo de investigación que nos asignaron.
Senor Freelon: Dime lo que aprendiste sobre el desarrollo humano.
Christopher Ford: En el desarrollo humano, creo que la política influye en la sociedad porque seguimos uno de los debates entre Trump y Clinton. La gente tiene que votar por uno de ellos. También aprendimos acerca de las fronteras entre las naciones.
