GCCS Make Over

by Jaime Garzon, Class 3B

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Creative Art Works (CAW), a non-profit whose mission is to improve the lives of under-resourced NYC youth through the arts. CAW serves thousands of young people each year through classes, community art-making events, and youth employment creating large-scale public art. GCCS has commissioned a mural for the school building that will be created by these young artists, aged 14-24 years. The mural is expected to be completed by the end of August 2016.

“We are very excited about our project with Creative Art Works,” says Bill Holmes, GCCS’ Chief Operating Officer. “We will collaborate with local community members on the visual aspects of the mural, so not only will it beautify the façade of the building, but it will also be a reflection of the neighborhood.”

GCCS has recently given the cafeteria a face-lift and installed energy efficient lighting throughout the school building. More updates will take place during the summer, including a new kitchen installation. Long-term plans are also in the works for further renovations to the building. We look forward to seeing you all in the next school year—have a great summer break!
