He has over 30 years of professional experience in these fields and has taught all grades from K-8 within the NYC Department of Education. Freelon helped develop the model for Conflict Resolution Through Drama as a faculty member of New York University’s Creative Arts Team. He went on to pioneer best practices models in Youth Leadership Development, creating and facilitating interactive workshops delivered to youth groups and community organizations across the country.
Television programs that Freelon has produced and directed include the following: Another Voice, PBS’ nationally syndicated weekly news program; Night Owl, a news magazine for Capital Cities Communications; and Perfect Harmony, a full-length jazz opera for which he also wrote the libretto. As part of Freelon's work in conflict resolution, the multi-part interactive educational video series, If At First, became a national best seller in the attitudinal skills development genre. In addition to his career as a teacher, he is also Founder and President of Windy Crest Media, an educational video production company.
