Grade 3 Co-Teacher
Helena A. Lopez-Smith was born and raised in Bronx, New York, after her parents migrated from South Carolina. She has been teaching for almost 30 years and holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology with a Minor in Education from Lehman College. After being encouraged to continue her education, Ms. Lopez-Smith later obtained her Masters in Education for Students with Disabilities from Mercy College and became certified as a General Education and Special Education Educator.
Pursuing education as a career goal has been a meaningful and rewarding experience for her. She is extremely knowledgeable about the birth and development of America, which she happily shares with her students. Ms. Lopez-Smith believes that learning valuable information and interesting facts to instill in young learners help to infuse quality character in young minds today for our future tomorrow. It is for this reason that she considers her job as an educator one of great responsibility, and remains completely dedicated to the success of her students.
The youngest of six siblings, Ms. Lopez-Smith has been married for 35 years and has three children and two grandchildren. Her interests include family, music and, of course, education!
