Primary Functions and Position Overview
Global Community Charter School (GCCS) is a Harlem-based International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that is innovative, inquiry-based, culturally competent, and provides students with a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum that encourages critical and creative thinking.
The Pre-K Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing learning experiences that promote social, physical, and intellectual growth. The lead teacher will be supported in the classroom by a teaching assistant. The Pre-K Lead teacher will receive professional support and coaching from the the Assistance Chief Academic Officer as well as other school leaders.
Coordinating knowledge of students, instructional content and curricular resources to design differentiated units and lesson plans aligned to the NYS Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core
Knowledge of the requirements for providing the type of care and supervision young children need, and the ability to communicate with such children as well as his/her parents
Maintaining effective and organized physical setting for optimal early childhood teaching and learning
Using a variety of developmentally appropriate assessments fully aligned with instructional outcomes to provide a full composite of students’ abilities and needs and to inform instruction
Evaluate academic achievement and progress towards learning objectives through detailed data analysis of student performance on a wide variety of metrics; Utilize student data collected to drive instruction and intervention
Engaging in coaching cycles and implementing research-based strategies that maximize their own performance and that of their students
Reflecting on their own progress as educators and seeking out professional resources to continuously improve their practice
Managing student behavior and classroom routines to maximize learning time and create a positive classroom environment
Supporting and monitoring the growth and development of an assistant teacher by assigning worthwhile responsibilities that impact student learning and achievement
Attending IEP meetings and ensuring appropriate accommodations are given to students during assessments
Actively participating in professional development workshops as laid out in the school and professional development calendars
Model, promote and embody the International Baccalaureate learner profile to create a cohesive school culture of academic and personal success
Supporting the school as directed by the Chief Academic Officer and Assistant Chief Academic Officer
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
M.A., Ed.M or Master’s degree in relevant content area
New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education or demonstrated process towards receiving reciprocity for certification from other states
A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time pre-kindergarten or elementary classroom teacher
Deep understanding of early childhood social, emotional and cognitive development
Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, urban school setting preferred.
Evidence of excellence in teaching through continuous learning and data analysis
Be a team player - a desire to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues
